The house and its place in Charlottetown

Beaconsfield Historic House is a Victorian home designed and built by architect W.C. Harris for James and Edith Peake in 1877. Its location at the corner of Kent and West streets puts it within Charlottetown’s downtown heritage streetscape.

The house was described by its operator as one of Charlottetown’s most elegant homes, built with fine materials and craftsmanship and equipped with modern conveniences of its day.

Henry Cundall, its second owner, moved in with his sisters Penelope and Millicent in 1883. After Cundall died in 1916, the house became a residence for young ladies and later for student nurses.

Original Victorian features and furnished rooms help tell the story of the home. The operator also notes views of Charlottetown Harbour.
